This was the only Top 40 hit by this band, consisting of Dwight Twilley himself, and Phil Seymour - both of whom each had one Top 40 single on their own in the 80s. This was possibly my favorite version of the song.ĩ5: I'M ON FIRE - DWIGHT TWILLEY BAND - One hit wonders abounded on this list. The Platters did it first, with the highest charting version, which got up to #5 twenty years before, but this one came close, peaking at #6. It was a great song, IMO.ĩ6: ONLY YOU - RINGO STARR - This song became the third song to hit the Top Ten four times with different versions. Well, whatever the case, this song, the sole Top 40 entry for this Memphis band, had sort of a country rock sound to it. Anyway, this song was by one of the most successful Canadian acts of the 1970s, and this one is possibly my favorite of their Top 40 hitsĩ7: THIRD-RATE ROMANCE - AMAZING RHYTHM ACES (TIE) - Not sure how this song got the benefit of the tie, since it peaked at #14 and the BTO song, well, at least hit the Top Ten in the 1974 survey period (whatever it was at the time). Anyway, this was a good song - one of his best solo hits.ĩ7: YOU AIN'T SEEN NOTHIN' YET - BACHMAN -TURNER OVERDRIVE (TIE) - Here is a song that almost suffered the same fate as the Four Seasons song mentioned above, as its chart run was divided between the 19 survey period, but it just made it onto the chart, thanks to the song doing a turnabout on the chart due to the popularity of the flipside "Free Wheelin'". Here we go!ġ00: GET DANCIN' - DISCOTHEQUE AND THE SEX-O-LETTES - Even though this song was the roof-raising R&B music that I wasn't a fan of, it was actually not too bad.ĩ9: SWEARIN' TO GOD - FRANKIE VALLI - Valli was still doing double duty, performing solo as well as with the Four Seasons (as the latter charted in the fall with "Who Loves You", but due to bad timing, that song did not make either the 1975 or 1976 chart, which I thought was a shame). Here is Part 1 - the Top 100 countdowns of the latter half of the 1970s. ![]() ![]() I was hoping to bring this to you in one lump post, but that is against the character limit, so I broke it down into three parts. ![]() All right, folks, strap on your seat belts and hang on! This is not one commentary, not two commentaries, but each and every commentary that I've ever written for the AT40 year-enders, including the two from the late-1980s that, as far as I know, have never been rebroadcast.
